In a display of sheer dominance at the Harare Sports Club, Faisal Shinoyzada etched his name into history as Afghanistan crushed Ireland by a staggering 191 runs in the Under-19 World Cup 2026 Super-6 clash. This emphatic victory propelled the Afghan youngsters into the semi-finals, setting up a blockbuster showdown against Australia on February 4 at the same venue.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss on Friday, Afghanistan overcame an early wobble—losing both openers for just 27 runs—to post a mammoth 315 for 7. Shinoyzada was the architect of this towering total, anchoring the innings with a masterful 163 off 142 balls, laced with 19 boundaries. His partnerships were the game-changers: first, a crucial 75-run stand with Uzairullah Niyazi (26), followed by a match-defining 188-run alliance with captain Mahboob Khan (89 off 79).

Ireland’s bowlers fought back valiantly, with Ruben Wilson and skipper Oliver Riley claiming three wickets apiece, and Thomas Ford snaring one. But it wasn’t enough to dent the Afghan momentum.

Chasing 316, Ireland unravelled spectacularly, folding for 124 in 40.4 overs. They were in tatters at 53 for 5, and a brief 55-run rescue act by Marco Bates (34) and Ruben Wilson (31 off 36) offered false hope. Once that fell, the collapse was swift.

Afghanistan’s bowlers ran riot, led by Abdul Aziz and Aqil Khan with three wickets each, while Nooristani Umarzai and Rohullah Arab picked up one apiece. This win confirms Afghanistan and Australia from Group 1 in the semis, eliminating Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, and Ireland from title contention.

Shinoyzada’s knock now stands as the highest individual score by an Afghan in U19 World Cup history, a testament to the emerging powerhouse’s depth and resilience in global cricket.
