New Delhi, April 21: Gujarat Titans’ batting all-rounder Shahrukh Khan remains unfazed by his team’s crushing 99-run loss to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. Speaking exclusively after the setback on April 20, the dynamic player emphasized resilience in the face of adversity.
GT currently sits sixth on the points table with three losses from six matches. But Shahrukh insists this single defeat doesn’t encapsulate their potential. ‘In a long tournament like IPL, ups and downs are inevitable,’ he said. ‘As professionals, we park those moments aside and focus on what’s next. Everyone in the team knows this. One heavy loss doesn’t define us as a unit.’
He highlighted the learning curve from the match, noting positive takeaways that the side is building upon. Shahrukh’s own form has been modest this season, scoring just 35 runs at an average of 11.66 in six games, but his mindset is geared towards adaptability.
Batting in the lower middle order demands versatility, Shahrukh explained. ‘Positions shift as the game progresses. You can’t stick to one spot. Middle-order batsmen must stay mentally flexible, ready to counter any situation.’ He compared batting at No. 4, where you get a few extra balls to settle, versus lower down where impact is immediate.
‘Practice in the nets helps us adjust. Whether it’s No. 4 or No. 7, professionals adapt without complaint,’ he added. The presence of batting coach Matthew Hayden has been a boon. ‘He’s world-class, idolized by all for his power and dominance. His simple tips in nets are gold, especially for openers.’
As a finisher, Shahrukh’s preparation focuses on death overs. ‘Start aggressively from ball one, read slower balls quickly, and practice yorkers relentlessly. That’s the key against bowlers’ tactics.’ With GT aiming to bounce back, Shahrukh’s words signal a team ready to regroup and chase glory in the tournament.
