In a swift move ahead of the T20 World Cup, Scotland’s men’s cricket head coach Owen Dawkins has officially confirmed the coaching team and support staff lineup. Joining Dawkins and assistant coach Gordon Drummond will be a trio of specialists: Monib Iqbal, Paul Tweedy, and Jack Bass. The squad is bolstered by medical expert Raj McRae-Rutre (doctor), physiotherapist Gary Metcalf, and team manager Fiona Rae.
This announcement comes at a whirlwind pace, with Scotland receiving an invitation to the tournament just 10 days before the event kicks off, following Bangladesh’s withdrawal. Despite the tight timeline, the team has been meticulously assembled to maximize performance.
Monib Iqbal, a former Scotland international, steps up as spin coach for his second consecutive men’s T20 World Cup. He was part of the 2024 coaching setup, bringing continuity and expertise to the spin department.
Paul Tweedy, Somerset’s fielding and assistant coach, brings a trophy-laden resume. He played a key role in Somerset’s T20 Blast triumphs in 2023 and 2025, served as interim head coach at Taunton, and has international experience with England Lions.
Jack Bass joins as strength and conditioning coach, a role he currently holds at Nottinghamshire. His past stints include Worcestershire and franchise cricket with Trent Rockets in The Hundred, adding robust fitness know-how to the group.
Head coach Owen Dawkins expressed delight: ‘I’m thrilled to confirm Scotland’s coaching team for the upcoming T20 World Cup campaign. With very limited time to build the staff before the tournament, it was crucial for us to assemble a group with diverse experiences to work alongside Gordon and myself. It’s fantastic to see we’ve put together a high-quality group.’
Scotland, placed in Group C, launches their campaign against West Indies on February 7, followed by Italy on February 9, England on February 14, and Nepal on February 17. Fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an underdog story in the making.
