In a dramatic turn of events in international cricket, Cricket Scotland has accepted the ICC’s invitation to replace Bangladesh in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is set to kick off on February 7, promising high-octane action across stunning venues.

Bangladesh’s withdrawal stemmed from their refusal to play league-stage matches in India as per the original schedule. Citing security concerns—particularly after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s release from IPL 2026—the Bangladesh Cricket Board demanded a shift to Sri Lanka or a group swap with Ireland. The ICC stood firm, confirming Scotland’s participation on Saturday.

Cricket Scotland’s chairman, Wilf Walsh, received the confirmatory call from ICC Chairman Jay Shah. ‘Our team is ready to compete,’ Walsh declared, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to face top global sides in India over the coming weeks.

Chief Executive Trudy Lindblad echoed the excitement, noting the team’s rigorous training and imminent departure to acclimatize. ‘This is a golden chance for our players to shine on the world stage before millions,’ she said, acknowledging the unique circumstances.

Now slotted into Group C, Scotland will clash with England, Italy, Nepal, and West Indies. Three matches await in Kolkata, with one in Mumbai. Team selections will be announced soon, as Scotland gears up for this historic debut.

This development adds fresh intrigue to the tournament, spotlighting associate nations’ growing role in elite cricket. Fans worldwide are buzzing about potential upsets from the Scottish side.
