Sanju Samson’s explosive form has put him in the spotlight ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Playing for Kochi Blue Tigers in the Kerala Cricket League, Samson showcased his batting prowess with an impressive 83 off 41 balls against Alleppey Ripples. This innings included nine towering sixes, including a sensational no-look shot that gained widespread attention. This performance helped chase down a target of 177 with ease, reaffirming his batting capabilities.
This remarkable score is his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score, following earlier scores of 121 off 51, 89 off 46, and 62 off 37. Samson is clearly excelling as an opener, despite not being utilized in that position for India, despite his current form.
With Shubman Gill likely to return as vice-captain, paired with world no.1 T20 batter Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order, Samson is not expected to regain his opening spot in the Indian team. Instead, India’s leadership, skipper Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir, might position him in the lower middle order, an area where he hasn’t consistently dominated.
Samson’s performances in the KCL are also attracting attention in the IPL 2026 trade window. His value is increasing, and CSK is reportedly interested in him, potentially to replace their wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni. With the IPL trade window already open, franchises can facilitate player swaps or cash deals, creating a direct path for Samson to change teams before the mini-auction. If he continues this upward trend, Sanju Samson’s 2025 could set him up for both Asia Cup success and a significant IPL move.
