New Delhi witnessed a groundbreaking initiative by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) as it rolled out a specialized four-day sports science workshop exclusively for coaches in shooting and archery. Hosted at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, the event was spearheaded by SAI’s Sports Science Division to equip trainers with cutting-edge monitoring tools and scientific methodologies.

The workshop aims to elevate athlete performance during training and competitions by integrating modern science into coaching practices. SAI Director General and Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao inaugurated the session, emphasizing the government’s unwavering support for sports science initiatives. ‘We will back these efforts fully, but success hinges on prudent resource allocation and tangible results,’ Rao stated. He highlighted the critical role of sports science in high-stakes disciplines where razor-thin margins separate victory from defeat.

Rao further underscored how scientific approaches enhance training quality, prevent injuries, and extend athletes’ careers. SAI plans to expand this support nationwide by increasing centers, bolstering national camps, and strengthening Centers of Excellence with robust athlete support systems.

Brigadier (Dr.) Bibhu Kalyan Nanda, Director and Head of SAI’s Sports Science Division, explained that such focused engagements enable coaches and scientists to embed principles into daily routines. This boosts technical proficiency while minimizing injury risks, fostering an athlete-centric model led by coaches and backed by science.

Experts from IGSC New Delhi, NSSCs in Bengaluru, Sonipat, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, and NSNIS Patiala, alongside NRAI affiliates, are participating. Part of a broader series targeting hockey, boxing, wrestling, judo, athletics, shooting, and archery, the workshop covers physiology, recovery sciences, sports psychology, medicine, nutrition, hydration, injury management, yoga-based recovery, and emotional control.

Hands-on sessions introduce neurofeedback, visualization, wearables, data tracking, and AI-driven performance feedback. By uniting coaches, scientists, medical experts, and specialists, the program bridges traditional coaching with science, ensuring world-class support for every athlete.
