DUBAI, March 1 – Star Indian badminton player PV Sindhu has reassured fans that she is safe despite being stranded at Dubai airport amid escalating tensions between Iran, Israel, and the US. The conflict, which erupted on Saturday, has thrown global air travel into disarray, leaving thousands, including Sindhu, in limbo.
In a heartfelt post on X early Sunday, Sindhu described the harrowing moments at the airport. ‘Things are getting tougher by the minute, and the situation turns scarier every hour. Just hours ago, an explosion rocked near where we were sheltered at the airport. My coach had to flee quickly as he was closest to the smoke and debris. It was a tense, terrifying moment for all of us,’ she wrote.
Thanks to the relentless efforts of Dubai airport staff and authorities, the group was relocated to a safer spot. Sindhu expressed special gratitude to the Indian High Commission in Dubai for their unwavering support. ‘We’re all safe now, and we’re trying to rest a bit while keeping hopes high as we wait for things to normalize,’ she added.
Earlier Saturday night, Sindhu had shared her initial shock. ‘It’s hard to comprehend what’s happening. Seeing everything escalate so rapidly is truly frightening. Disturbing videos are surfacing, reflecting the harsh reality. Dubai, a city I love – always vibrant and safe – makes this even harder to process.’
She appreciated the flood of messages from well-wishers, noting, ‘I’m safe with my team, stuck in Dubai due to the Iran conflict. Chaos at the airport, families waiting anxiously. These moments remind us how fragile life is. Praying for safety and peace for everyone affected.’
As airlines cancel flights and tensions simmer, Sindhu’s updates provide a personal glimpse into the human cost of geopolitical strife. The world watches closely, hoping for de-escalation and safe returns for stranded travelers.
