New Delhi buzzes with anticipation as Namibia’s left-arm pacer Ruben Trumpelmann shares his thrill for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India. Placed in Group A alongside cricket giants India, Pakistan, and hosts USA, plus Netherlands, Namibia stands as an emerging force ready to stun the world.
Trumpelmann, in an exclusive interview, couldn’t hide his excitement. ‘Playing the World Cup in India will be incredibly thrilling,’ he said. Reflecting on their qualification journey, he recalled clinching a spot in Zimbabwe last August, finishing second, which kickstarted their rigorous preparations. They hosted South Africa in T20s at their new stadium, played World League Two games, camped in Cape Town, and honed skills in Dubai against Afghanistan and Italy.
Praising new coach Gary Kirsten, Trumpelmann highlighted his vast experience, especially in India, and his calm demeanor that makes learning seamless. ‘He’s all about helping others,’ he added.
On strategies, the pacer emphasized sharp bowling skills over relying on pitch assistance. ‘Warm-up against Scotland saw big scores, so bowlers need fire and precision. Indian pitches won’t offer much turn or pace, so execution is key,’ he noted. Their plan? Keep it simple—let bowlers lead to victories, giving batters freedom to express.
For a small nation like Namibia, reaching four straight World Cups is monumental, credited to team bonding since 2021. ‘We live, train, and play as friends—that’s our edge,’ Trumpelmann said.
Leading the bowling attack is a joy for him, thriving under pressure with new ball and death overs. Upsetting full members like South Africa has built invaluable experience. Though yet to reach Super 8s, confidence runs high with young talents joining the fray.
Recent warm-up wins over Afghanistan fuel hopes. ‘We’re excited for upsets. With seniors like JJ and exciting 17-year-old Max, plus Pierre’s successful coaching transitioning to Craig’s fresh approach, our backroom is stellar,’ he enthused.
Facing India? ‘Always special against such a top team. Performing before 75,000 fans in India will be epic.’ Namibia eyes Super 8s by playing complete games.
