In the vibrant world of Indian table tennis, few names shine as brightly as Mouma Das. Born on January 24, 1984, in Kolkata’s Narkeldanga area, Mouma’s journey began under the watchful eye of her father, Prabeer Das, a sports enthusiast who introduced her to the sport at a tender age. What started as a childhood pastime quickly evolved into a lifelong passion, propelling her to international stardom.

Despite facing resource constraints early on, Mouma’s relentless hard work and unwavering dedication carved her path to glory. Known for her aggressive playing style, lightning-fast reflexes, and pinpoint accuracy, she excels in both singles and doubles. Her breakthrough came in 2000 at the Children of Asia International Sports Games in Yakutsk, where she clinched her first international gold.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi marked a pinnacle, with Mouma playing a pivotal role in securing a silver for the Indian women’s team. Her global footprint is immense, having represented India in 17 World Table Tennis Championships from 1997 in Manchester to 2017 in Dusseldorf. Remarkably, she ties with Thailand’s Komwon Nanthana for the most appearances by any Asian in both categories.

Mouma’s medal cabinet boasts bronzes and silvers from Commonwealth Games, including a team gold and doubles silver in 2018, alongside multiple golds from South Asian Games. With over 400 international matches against players from 75 countries, her resilience stands unmatched. Honored with the Arjuna Award in 2013 and Padma Shri in 2021, she continues to inspire as an employee of Oil India Limited, embodying the spirit of perseverance in Indian sports.
