Former England captain Michael Vaughan has shared his views on Jofra Archer’s potential return for the upcoming Edgbaston Test against India. Vaughan believes it’s too soon to include the fast bowler in the playing XI. His perspective is that Archer should get more experience playing red-ball cricket for Sussex before the Lord’s Test. Archer recently played his first first-class match since 2021 for Sussex against Durham, taking 1-32 in 18 overs.

“No. He’s had four years out of action, I don’t see what the great rush is. Just give him a couple of games for Sussex and then bring him in for the game at Lord’s. I would continue with the attack that have bowled so well here at Leeds this week,” said Vaughan.

The initial Test at Headingley between India and England was highly competitive. India made 359/3 on Day 1, with Shubman Gill scoring a century and Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul contributing. Rishabh Pant achieved twin centuries and Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets. Nevertheless, India failed to defend a total of 371. England won the match, successfully chasing down 345 runs, with Ben Duckett’s 149 on Day 5 being a key performance. The home side took a 1-0 series lead.
