Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium witnessed a historic moment on Wednesday as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) unveiled a special ‘Honors Board’ dedicated to the city’s legendary sports journalists. Located inside the Balasaheb Thackeray Press Box, this tribute recognizes the pivotal role these media professionals have played in chronicling Mumbai’s rich cricket legacy over decades.

The initiative highlights how journalists have not only documented but also promoted and preserved the spirit of cricket in the city. Their unwavering commitment to covering matches, players, and milestones has kept fans connected to the game. The board stands as a permanent symbol of gratitude towards these storytellers of the sport.

The unveiling ceremony drew prominent figures from cricket and media circles. MCA President Ajinkya Naik, Secretary Prof. Dr. Unmesh Khanvilkar, Joint Secretary Nilesh Bhosle, and Apex Council members graced the occasion. Naik emphasized that Mumbai’s cricket heritage is a collective effort, crediting journalists for their honest and passionate reporting that has strengthened the game’s narrative.

‘This Honors Board is a modest yet meaningful acknowledgment of their dedication,’ Naik stated. Secretary Khanvilkar echoed these sentiments, praising the journalists for safeguarding Mumbai’s cricket history through consistent coverage and bringing the sport closer to the public.

Permanently installed in the press box, the board ensures that the contributions of these journalists are remembered for generations. It serves as a reminder of the symbiotic relationship between cricket and media in Mumbai, where stories from the stands and the field continue to inspire. As Wankhede prepares for future spectacles, this gesture underscores the unsung heroes behind the headlines.
