New Delhi is buzzing with optimism as Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, outlined the transformative impact of the Khelo India Mission in Parliament today. Speaking during Question Hour, the minister emphasized that this flagship initiative is strategically designed to propel India towards medal glory at major international events like the Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
Mandaviya painted a stark contrast between the past and present. ‘There was a time when preparations lacked timeliness and funding was scarce,’ he recalled. ‘The Khelo India Mission changes that. It ensures systematic training, robust infrastructure, and financial support, positioning our athletes to compete at the highest levels.’
He highlighted the government’s multi-pronged approach to sports development. From eradicating politics in federations to introducing the Sports Governance Bill, every step is aimed at fostering a professional ecosystem. ‘We’ve launched Khelo India, Fit India, Khel Olympiad policies, and now the mission to elevate sports culture nationwide,’ Mandaviya asserted.
Addressing concerns about financial aid for athletes, the minister assured comprehensive support. ‘When national teams travel abroad, the government covers all expenses. Even for individual players in non-official events facing financial hurdles, we step in—arranging tickets and logistics so talent isn’t sidelined by money matters.’
This vision under the Modi government signals a new era for Indian sports. With structured missions and policies, the nation is not just participating but aiming to dominate global podiums, inspiring millions to embrace fitness and excellence.
