Kent County Cricket Club has pulled off a major coup by signing South African spin-bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy for the bulk of their 2026 season. This marks the 31-year-old’s debut in the County Championship and Vitality Blast, bringing his international experience to English shores.
Muthusamy will feature in all 20 matches of the Vitality Blast T20 campaign, starting May 22, 2026, and stay with the club until the season’s end. He will also be available for eight County Championship fixtures, providing crucial depth during the spin-friendly later stages.
The versatile player expressed his excitement in a statement: ‘I’m thrilled to take on the challenge of playing County Championship and Vitality Blast for a club with such a rich history. I’ve heard glowing reviews from teammates who’ve played there before.’
Kent’s cricket director Simon Cook hailed the signing: ‘We’re delighted to have a multi-format international talent with us for most of the summer. Senuran’s adaptability shines through – he can bat in the middle and lower order in red-ball cricket and will be a key weapon when pitches turn. In the Blast, his left-handed aggression in death overs and economical spin in the middle phase are perfect fits.’
Muthusamy’s credentials are impeccable. Part of South Africa’s triumphant 2025 World Test Championship side at Lord’s, he debuted internationally in 2019. Across eight Tests, he’s claimed 23 wickets; six in five ODIs; and five in five T20Is. In first-class cricket, he’s notched 10 centuries in 115 matches, while his T20 record boasts 81 wickets at an average of 6.62.
His standout 109-run knock against India in November last year sealed a historic 2-0 series win for the Proteas, underlining his big-match temperament.
This move bolsters Kent’s ambitions, blending Muthusamy’s skills with their domestic setup for a competitive 2026 campaign. Fans are already buzzing about the impact he could make on Canterbury’s pitches.
