New Delhi is gearing up for an exciting 63rd edition of the ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ event on March 1, promising a star-studded showcase of fitness enthusiasm. Olympic athlete Jinson Johnson and young shooter Anish Bhanwala will be the highlights, drawing crowds to promote cycling and healthy living across India.
Jinson Johnson, who represented India at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will pedal through the scenic RK Beach in Visakhapatnam. His impressive medal tally includes gold in the 1500m at the 2018 Asian Games, silver in the 800m there, and another silver in the 1500m at the 2022 Asian Games. Johnson’s participation underscores the event’s aim to inspire through elite athletic examples.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, Anish Bhanwala, the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist in 25m rapid fire pistol, will join the cycling festivities. Bhanwala’s achievements extend to a silver in the mixed team event at the 2022 Cairo ISSF World Championship and a team bronze at the Asian Games, making him a role model for young participants.
The Delhi event unfolds at the prestigious Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex, organized with support from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Fire and Emergency Services. Joining the lineup are young fencer Taniksha Khatri, Fit India ambassador Nancy, and renowned Zumba instructor Aakanksha Tagotra, ensuring a diverse fitness extravaganza.
Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, this initiative has evolved into a mass movement. Over 2.5 crore people have participated at more than 2.5 lakh locations nationwide, transforming Sundays into fitness rituals.
Rooted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2019 Fit India Movement, the campaign emphasizes integrating fitness into daily life. Weekly events, coordinated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India, and various federations, span states and union territories. Beyond cycling, activities like yoga, skipping, martial arts, and cultural performances combat obesity and pollution, fostering a healthier nation.
