Jay Shah Hints India Hosting 2036 Olympics

New Delhi buzzed with anticipation on Sunday as ICC Chairman Jay Shah dropped a major hint about India's future in global sports. Speaking at the Sports Journalists Federation of India national conference, Shah urged everyone to gear up for the 2036 Olympics, strongly implying that India would be the host nation.

'We all know where the 2036 Olympics will be held,' Shah declared, referencing his successful preparations for events up to 2028 during his BCCI days. He called on the audience to prepare not just for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2022 Brisbane Olympics but also for the grand 2036 event. This statement has sparked widespread speculation and excitement across the sports fraternity.

Shah reflected on the transformative period from 2019 to 2026 for Indian cricket, highlighting key achievements under his leadership. 'We won two Under-19 Women's World Cups, two Under-19 Men's World Cups, reached finals in World Test Championship twice, were runners-up in Men's ODI World Cup, clinched the Women's ODI World Cup, secured T20 World Cup twice, and lifted the Champions Trophy,' he listed proudly.

Praising India's recent T20 World Cup triumph, Shah also commended strong performances from England, South Africa, New Zealand, and associate nations like USA, Netherlands, Nepal, and Zimbabwe. 'India nearly lost to USA, Netherlands almost beat Pakistan, Nepal challenged England fiercely, and Zimbabwe stunned Australia—these moments elevated the tournament,' he noted.

In a nostalgic touch, Shah commemorated the 25th anniversary of India's historic 2001 Test win at Eden Gardens against Australia. VVS Laxman's 281 and Rahul Dravid's 180 turned the tide in a 276-run victory, making March 15 a red-letter day in cricket history. Shah's vision positions India as a powerhouse ready for Olympic glory.
