    The day of 18 April 2008 was historic for Indian cricket. That day, the first match of IPL was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Bangalore won the toss and decided to bowl first, but this decision proved to be bad for them.

    Brendon McCullum and Sourav Ganguly came on the field as opening batsmen for Kolkata. Both of them showed aggressive play from the beginning. The team completed 50 runs in the first four overs itself. However, despite the fall of the wickets of Ganguly and Ricky Ponting, McCullum did not let the pace of scoring slow down.

    McCullum scored unbeaten 158 runs in 73 balls, which included 10 fours and 13 sixes. He completed his century in just 53 balls and became the first player to score a century in the history of IPL. Thanks to his innings, Kolkata scored a huge score of 222 runs. In response, Bangalore team failed to achieve this target.
