IPL 2025: The 18th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL is going to start from the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore this evening. Before this big match, the BCCI held a meeting with all the captains in Mumbai on 20 March. In this meeting, information was given about the rules to be implemented in the new season. This time some new rules have been added, while it has been decided to maintain some old rules. Let us know in detail about these rules.
1. Slow Over Rate Rules
This season has also changed the rule of slow over rate. Now demerit points will be added to the captain’s account, which will reduce the risk of match ban for him. At the same time, after joining every four point account, the captain’s match fee can also be fined 25 to 75 percent and these points will be added to their account for the next three years. In the last season, Hardik Pandya was banned for 2 matches due to a slow over rate, but this time there will be no restrictions that the captains of the teams will be able to play without any pressure.
2. Player replacement permission during season
For the first time, players will be able to change during the middle season in IPL. However, teams will only be able to choose new players from the BCCI’s ‘registered available player pool’. This rule will be beneficial for those teams whose prominent players get injured or leave the team in the middle of the season. Earlier, the teams had to finish the season only with the players found in the auction.
3. Entry ban of family and friends in the dressing room
The entry of the players’ family and friends in the dressing room has been banned this season. Earlier, family members and friends of many players used to reach the dressing room, but now it will not be possible. In addition, it has been made mandatory for all players to travel by team bus, so that security and discipline can be maintained. Such strictness is being done for the first time, which will strengthen the professional environment of the players.
4. New rules of Orange and Purple Cap
IPL 2025 has changed the rules of wearing orange and purple cap. Now the player who takes the most runs or wickets will have to wear an orange or purple cap for at least two overs. Earlier, the players could keep the cap on the head only, but now it would be mandatory to wear it for some time. Apart from this, practice and fitness tests on the main ground on the day of the match have also been banned.
5. For the first time such- two balls are used in the last innings
For the first time in the IPL, two new balls will be used in the second innings. This rule can prove to be beneficial, especially for fast bowlers, as the new ball will get better swing and bounce. The second new ball will be given from the 11th over of the second innings of the match, due to which the batsmen will also face challenging circumstances.
6. Ban with saliva on ball
In IPL 2025, permission to plant saliva has been given again. The ban due to Kovid-19 has now been lifted, which will help the bowlers in reverse swing. The BCCI took this decision after the consent of the captains, which can also affect world cricket.
7. New rule of super over
Earlier, when the match was tied in the IPL, the winner was decided from the super over. The super overs used to go on until a team won. But now this will not happen. Now the number of super overs has been limited. BCCI wants the result of the match to come within an hour of the super over starts. This means that countless super overs will no longer be.
The first super over match will start within 10 minutes of tie and the next super over will be played after 5 minutes. If the result does not come in 1 hour, the final super over will be announced. During the match, the players got warning and extra time will also be counted in the super over.
Impact player rules will remain intact
Significantly, the Impact Player Rules were implemented in the IPL 2023 season, in which teams were allowed to make a change between their playing 11, in which they could make another player a part of the team. Under this rule, the captain has to announce his playing 11 at the time of the toss and also gives the names of 5 more players, out of which he will make a part of the playing 11 through the impact player. So far, the ICC has not implemented this rule in international cricket.
