Regarding leaving Mumbai Indians’ retention, Karthik said- “If you ask me about my regrets in IPL, it is that I did not want to be retained in 2013. I don’t have many regrets in life. I am not that kind of person, but if you ask me about two regrets in my cricket career in terms of IPL, one of them would be the decision of not being retained, because I think Mumbai Indians was a team that really Could have helped me move forward and become a better player”.

Karthik told that even during Ranji Trophy, you can ask MI for practice. They will immediately give you everything you need like coach, balls, bowlers, side armour, hotel for stay, flight tickets etc. They have created such an ecosystem where players can enhance their skills in a better way. He said that if he had stayed there, he could have improved even more as a player.

Will regret not being able to play for CSK

Regarding not being able to play for Chennai Super Kings, DK said, “The second regret is that I have not been able to represent CSK till now, but I understand this. I regret this because I couldn’t play. I mean I am from Chennai and I have played all my cricket there and I would have loved to be a part of the yellow jersey, but I always respect them because they really try to get me in the auction every year”.

‘Sometimes we may have to lose friendships’

Dinesh Karthik opened up on the biggest regrets of his cricket career and his strained relationship with spinner Kuldeep Yadav during his struggling days with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Karthik said- Leading a franchise is a completely different job. Players from different types and countries are in the team and you have to deal with all the challenges. You are very honest with them. As a captain you may also lose some friends. When I was captaining KKR, Kuldeep Yadav was not performing as well as he is doing now. I had a serious conversation with him, and I don’t think he would have appreciated me on that level. I had to be strict with him.

He said, ‘That was a very difficult time for Kuldeep. I think those difficult times have made him a better bowler today. My misfortune is that I had to be a part of that bad phase of his life. I hope he understands what I did. I don’t want him to appreciate it and everything to be fine. You have to take decisions for the team and there was nothing personal in it.
