Lionel Messi orchestrated a stunning victory for Inter Miami, providing two assists, including a last-minute pass that led to a 2-1 win against Atlas in their inaugural Leagues Cup match. Messi returned to the starting lineup and immediately impacted the game, combining seamlessly with his teammates.

In the final moments, Messi’s pass to Marcelo Weigandt led to a late goal in the 96th minute. After a VAR review, the goal was confirmed, securing the win for Inter Miami.

Messi earlier set up Telasco Segovia in the 58th minute, giving Miami a 1-0 lead. Segovia’s finish eased the pressure on Miami.

Atlas equalized in the 82nd minute through Rivaldo Lozano, but Messi’s last-minute assist saved the day for Inter Miami.

This performance capped off a stellar July for Messi, who scored eight goals and provided five assists, earning him the MLS Player of the Month award. Inter Miami had a 4-1-1 record during the month.

The first half was a tight, physical affair with no goals. Rocco Ríos Novo, Inter Miami’s goalkeeper, made important saves. Luis Suárez nearly scored before halftime.

The game also marked the debut of Rodrigo De Paul, Messi’s new teammate.

Inter Miami started their Leagues Cup campaign strongly, fueled by Messi’s exceptional play. With new players like De Paul, Miami is aiming high.
