New Delhi is buzzing with anticipation as the Indian men’s hockey team gears up for a fresh chapter in the FIH Pro League 2025-26. With eyes firmly set on the Hobart leg, the 24-member squad views this tournament as a crucial stepping stone toward the Hockey World Cup and Asian Games.
Scheduled from February 20 to 25 at the Tasmania Hockey Centre in Australia, the Hobart leg promises intense action. India will lock horns with Spain and hosts Australia in a series of high-stakes matches.
The campaign kicks off on February 21 against Spain, followed by a clash with Australia on February 22. The team faces Spain again on February 24 before wrapping up against Australia on February 25. These encounters are more than just games; they’re vital for building momentum and fine-tuning strategies.
Head-to-head records add spice to the fixtures. Against Spain, the last 10 matches are evenly split with four wins each and two draws. However, Australia has dominated India recently, securing six victories in the past 10 outings, with India claiming two wins and two draws.
Leading the side in the absence of regular skipper Harmanpreet Singh is Olympic bronze medalist Hardik Singh. The squad boasts fresh talent including Amandeep Lakra, Manmeet Singh, Angad Bir Singh, Arijit Singh Hundal, and Aditya Arjun Lalge, injecting youthful vigor into the lineup.
Hardik Singh expressed his pride in captaining the team, stating, ‘Leading the national team in a prestigious Pro League is a huge honor. While we’ll miss Harmanpreet on the pitch, his absence is an opportunity for the rest of us to step up. We’ve reviewed our recent performances, learned from them, and are entering Hobart with a positive and aggressive mindset.’
Highlighting the young guns, Hardik added, ‘I’m thrilled about the youngsters joining us. They bring fresh, fearless energy to our attack. Facing top teams like Australia and Spain is the perfect platform for them to shine after their hard work.’
As India takes the field, fans are hopeful for a strong showing that could signal big things ahead in international hockey.
