New Delhi is set to cement its status as a global shooting powerhouse by hosting the Asian Rifle and Pistol Championship in 2027. The Asian Shooting Confederation announced that the prestigious event will take place from December 1 to 10 at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, offering eight coveted quota spots for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

This championship holds immense significance for Asian shooters aiming for Olympic glory. With eight quotas up for grabs, the competition will draw top talent from across the continent, all vying for a chance to represent their nations in LA.

India’s National Rifle Association will organize the event, building on the country’s recent successes. At the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian shooters secured a record 16 quotas through qualifying events—eight each in rifle and pistol disciplines. The nation sent 21 athletes to Paris, surpassing the 15 from Tokyo, and clinched three bronze medals, marking a historic medal haul in shooting.

The Dr. Karni Singh Range, a world-class facility, will once again showcase India’s hosting prowess. Just ahead of the 2027 event, Delhi is currently hosting the Asian Shooting Championship from February 2 to 14, with India fielding its largest-ever team of 118 athletes—over a third of the total 311 participants.

Kazakhstan follows with 35 shooters, Iran with 28, while powerhouses like Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong bring formidable squads. Across 20 nations, 564 events will unfold, promising high-stakes drama and exceptional performances.

Indian shooters are brimming with confidence on home soil, eyeing medals and vital experience. This dual hosting underscores India’s rising dominance in the sport, positioning the country as a key player ahead of the LA Olympics.
