Ind vs Ban Test Series: Can Kanpur test be cancelled? Before the second test, UP government declared it a ‘big threat’

India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test: The upcoming Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur could be in jeopardy due to security concerns. The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has raised concerns over the structure of one of the stands in the stadium, due to which the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has restricted the sale of tickets.

India and Bangladesh will play the second Test of their two-match series in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1. The match will be played at the city’s Green Park Stadium. The Indian cricket team has already arrived and will begin their practice soon.

India lead the tournament 1-0 after their emphatic 280-run win in the first Test in Chennai last week. The Rohit Sharma-led side once again prevented Bangladesh from achieving their first Test win against India.

According to the information, only 1,700 tickets will be sold for the 4,800-capacity stand as a precautionary measure. UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee confirmed that the PWD has identified some problems, and repair work will continue for the next few days. This decision prioritizes the safety of the fans.

However, the stadium’s infrastructure and maintenance are being investigated following the latest reports on the dangerous stands. The stadium is owned by the Sports Department of the Uttar Pradesh government, and is not directly under the UPCA or BCCI.

Floodlight concerns

Another concern is the floodlights in the stadium, which can cause problems if poor lighting affects the game. India last played against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium in November 2021, and poor visibility affected the final session of Day 5.
