Shubman Gill, India’s newly appointed Test skipper and T20 vice-captain, missed the Duleep Trophy 2025 clash against East Zone. Despite being named as the captain, his absence meant Ankit Kumar took over the captaincy. It has been confirmed that Gill was unable to participate due to a flu, which kept him at home in Chandigarh. Medical professionals advised Gill to rest and recover, leading to his exclusion from the quarterfinal. His absence was a considerable loss for North Zone, who relied on his form and experience. Gill has now returned to light training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He is expected to join the Indian squad in Dubai for the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to commence on September 9, where he will serve as vice-captain. The team will begin their tournament on September 10 with a match against UAE, and the Asia Cup is a key preparation stage for the T20 World Cup next year.
