    A heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over the Asia Cup 2025. Sri Lankan cricketer Dunith Wellalage is grieving the loss of his father. Suranga Wellalage passed away on September 18th in Abu Dhabi, during the match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The news of his passing brought sadness to the team.

    Dunith Wellalage is deeply saddened by the loss of his father, Suranga Wellalage. The tragic event occurred on the same day that Dunith was playing in the Asia Cup match against Afghanistan. Sri Lanka won the match and secured their spot in the Super Four. Dunith played in the match and learned about his father’s death after the game, leaving him completely distraught.

    Following the incident, Dunith Wellalage immediately returned home. The big question now is whether he will take part in the remainder of the Asia Cup matches. Dunith Wellalage bowled the final over, where Mohammad Nabi hit five sixes. According to some reports, Dunith Wellalage’s father suffered a heart attack after the over. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has yet to release an official statement.

    A video has emerged on social media showing Sri Lanka’s coach Sanath Jayasuriya and team manager informing Dunith Wellalage about the death of his father following the match. Mohammad Nabi was also stunned when he was told of the incident.
