Heart broken, hope shattered, medal not received, CAS rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal

Vinesh Phogat Petition Dismissed: A big update has come out regarding Haryana’s Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for silver medal in Paris Olympics. The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) rejected her appeal on 14 August. Phogat was disqualified before the final for being overweight. After this decision, she had appealed to CAS.

Let us tell you that after winning the pre-quarterfinals, quarterfinals and semi-finals in a single day, Vinesh Phogat reached the final of women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling. But on the morning of the final, her weight was found to be more than 50 kg, due to which she missed both the final and the medal. The same evening, she knocked on the door of the sports tribunal and made two demands.

Vinesh had written to the Court of Arbitration for Sports a few hours before the final that her weight should be rechecked and she should be allowed to play the final. The court did not accept this appeal and said that the final is about to start, so everything has been decided. In the second appeal, Vinesh had said that she had won till the semi-finals, so she should jointly get the silver medal, but CAS rejected her appeal. After this decision of CAS, Indian Olympic Committee President PT Usha has expressed displeasure.

India could have won 6 more medals in wrestling

Before the CAS decision, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh had said that ‘India could have won 6 more medals in wrestling, but given the turmoil in the sport in the last 15-16 months, we lost many medals. We hope that the sports court’s decision will be in our favor. WFI wants the decision to be in India’s favor, because it is the country’s medal, not someone’s individual medal. It will be added to India’s medal tally. The category of the sport is a personal decision of the player. Maintaining that weight also depends on the player. WFI President Sanjay Singh said that weight gain and loss has a very bad effect on the player’s body. Vinesh was given every facility she had demanded, including training with a foreign coach in Hungary.’

We will welcome Vinesh like a gold medalist – Mahavir Phogat

Vinesh’s uncle Mahavir Phogat has said that we will welcome Vinesh like a gold medalist. A player who is treated like this at such a big level takes a decision like retirement. The whole family will celebrate Vinesh’s return from Paris and will start preparing for the 2028 Olympics.
