In a thrilling finale at Melbourne Park, Christian Harrison of the United States and Britain’s Neal Skupski captured the Australian Open 2026 men’s doubles title on Saturday. The transatlantic pair outlasted Australia’s Jason Kubler and Marc Polmans in a hard-fought 1 hour and 49-minute battle on Rod Laver Arena, winning 7-6(4), 6-4 to secure their first Grand Slam together.
The wild card duo of Kubler and Polmans put up a valiant fight, electrifying the home crowd by clawing back from 2-5 down in the opening set to force a tiebreak. However, Harrison and Skupski shifted the momentum decisively, reeling off four straight points from 3/4 in the breaker to take the first set. In the second, they broke serve in the third game and sealed the victory on their second match point after Harrison fired an ace from the tee.
As the sixth seeds, Harrison and Skupski had advanced to the final by defeating Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 7-6(7) in the semifinals. Notably, Granollers and Zeballos had won two majors in 2025, making the upset all the more impressive.
For Kubler, this runner-up finish came three years after his 2023 triumph with Rinky Hijikata on a wild card. He boasts a stellar 14-3 doubles record at his home major. Polmans, meanwhile, marked his best-ever Australian Open doubles result, surpassing his 2017 semifinal appearance with Andrew Whittington.
The day also saw Elise Mertens and Shuai Zhang claim the women’s doubles title, their ninth Grand Slam as a pair in just their seventh event together, beating Anna Danilina and Alexandra Krunic 7-6(4), 6-4. Earlier, on Friday, Gabusewicz and Peers became the first mixed doubles defending champions in 37 years.
