In a dominant display at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, Gujarat Giants secured their second-largest victory in Women’s Premier League history, thrashing UP Warriors by 45 runs on Thursday. This emphatic win propelled the Giants to second place on the points table, showcasing their rising prowess in the tournament.
Batting first, Gujarat Giants posted a challenging 153 for 8 in their 20 overs, powered by a gritty half-century from Sophie Devine. The Australian star remained unbeaten on 50 off 42 balls, smashing three sixes and two fours to anchor the innings. Beth Mooney complemented her with a brisk 38 off 34 deliveries, providing the much-needed momentum in the middle order.
UP Warriors’ bowlers Sophie Ecclestone and Kranti Gaud fought back with two wickets apiece, but it wasn’t enough to contain the Giants’ batting firepower. Chasing 154, Warriors crumbled spectacularly, folding for just 108 in 17.3 overs. Phoebe Litchfield top-scored with 32, while Chloe Tryon notched an unbeaten 30, but the rest of the lineup offered little resistance.
Giants’ bowlers struck early and often. Renuka Thakur and Sophie Devine claimed two wickets each, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad ran through the Warriors’ middle order with a haul of three wickets. This victory marks Giants’ second massive margin win against Warriors, following their 81-run triumph in Lucknow earlier in 2025, where they defended 186 to bowl out the opponents for 105.
For UP Warriors, the defeat etched another unwanted record – their second-lowest total in WPL history at 108, just three runs above their previous low of 105 against the same opponents. They’ve now been bundled out for 110 or less three times in the league, including a 110 against Mumbai Indians in 2023. As the 14th match of WPL 2026 unfolds, Giants are surging, while Warriors grapple with batting woes.
