Despite being included in the Indian Test team, Abhimanyu Easwaran is yet to make his debut. He has been waiting for his opportunity after being part of the squad in series against both Australia and England. His father, Ranganathan Easwaran, recently expressed his son’s frustration at not getting a chance to play. Former Indian captain and ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has weighed in on the situation, suggesting a crucial decision is needed for Easwaran to secure a spot in the team.
During an interview with The Times of India, Sourav Ganguly commented, “He’s still young, and I am confident he will get his chance. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Jadeja have all performed well. The number three position could be an opening for him as it is a somewhat weaker slot. Easwaran could perform well there.”
Easwaran’s father also mentioned that Gautam Gambhir had a conversation with his son, encouraging him and assuring him that his hard work would pay off. The head coach of the Indian team supported this, stating that he would not drop Easwaran from the team after a few matches.
Abhimanyu Easwaran boasts impressive first-class statistics. He has not played an international match yet, but in 103 first-class matches, he has accumulated 7841 runs with an average of 48.70, which includes 27 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
