The Delhi Premier League (DPL), initiated in 2024 by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), is a key domestic T20 league, created to provide a platform for young cricketers to display their skills. Manjit Singh, a DDCA director, commended Rohan Jaitley, the DDCA president, for his work in bringing the league to life. The league, now in its second season, features experienced players and rising stars. The DPL, which follows an IPL-like franchise model, enjoys high-quality broadcasting, digital streaming, and strong media coverage. This format has helped boost the league’s popularity. The DPL has helped players gain recognition and opportunities for advancement. Digvesh Rathi and Priyansh Arya are examples of players who gained prominence through the DPL and later made their mark in the Indian Premier League. The current season has seen the addition of new teams, providing more spots for young cricketers. The teams participating are Purani Dilli 6, North Delhi Strikers, South Delhi Superstarz, East Delhi Riders, West Delhi Lions, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, and Outer Delhi Warriors. The presence of players like Nitish Rana, Harshit Rana, Lalit Yadav, Priyansh Arya, and Digvesh Rathi, fresh from their IPL season, adds to the league’s appeal. The DPL finals have drawn record crowds, with the previous year’s final attracting over 22,000 spectators, setting a new benchmark for state-level leagues.
