New Delhi buzzed with energy as the 58th edition of ‘Sunday on Cycle’ rolled out across the city, drawing a diverse crowd of national athletes, first-time voters, and BSF personnel. This flagship fitness initiative under the Fit India movement celebrated National Voters’ Day and the eve of Republic Day, blending physical activity with civic pride.
Fit India Director Nadeem Dar highlighted the event’s nationwide expansion. ‘We’re thrilled to host this edition not just in Delhi but across India,’ he said. ‘For the first time, we’re pedaling alongside young first-time voters, sending a powerful message on fitness and democratic participation.’ The program features cycling alongside Zumba and yoga sessions, attracting over 2.5 million participants in 58 editions. Dar emphasized the need for sustained growth to make fitness a national habit.
National kabaddi stars Rohit Kumar and Ritu Shyoren joined the ride, advocating for regular physical activity. ‘Events like these keep India fit and healthy,’ Kumar told reporters. Shyoren urged more women to break barriers: ‘Many girls stay indoors due to family restrictions. Cycling promotes fitness and empowers them to make it a weekly routine.’
A senior athlete praised the inclusivity of Fit India, noting it goes beyond sports stars to everyday citizens. ‘Our bodies are like machines—regular maintenance through activity is key,’ he said. ‘This shouldn’t be just a photo op; it must become a lifestyle.’
Simultaneously, in Amritsar, Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse led the event, joined by SAI Deputy Director General and IPS officer Mayank Srivastava. He recalled PM Narendra Modi’s 2019 launch of Fit India with the slogan ‘Fitness ki dose, aadha ghanta roz’—half an hour daily for youth to swap screens for sweat. Central Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya promotes dedicating one sport per day.
The Amritsar ride merged voter awareness with fitness, featuring BSF IG Atul Fuljale, NIS Patiala teams, local cyclists, and new voters. Similar events unfolded at 30-35 locations nationwide, including Karaikal led by Dr. Mandaviya. These gatherings underscore a commitment to healthier, more engaged citizens ahead of Republic Day.
