The Indian football scene may be graced with a historic moment this October, potentially featuring the presence of the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo’s club, Al Nassr, is scheduled to compete against FC Goa on October 22nd as part of the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) 2025–26. The match has the potential to be one of the most high-profile events ever hosted in India. Al Nassr has added Ronaldo to its list of 12 international players participating in the ACL2, which also includes stars like Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Kingsley Coman. Notably, Aymeric Laporte will not be part of the competition, as he has returned to Spain to play for Athletic Club. FC Goa is in a group with Al Nassr, Al Zawraa (Iraq), and Istiklol (Tajikistan). Their group stage schedule includes a match against Al Zawraa on September 17th in Fatorda, followed by a game against Istiklol on October 1st. The highly anticipated match is the home game against Al Nassr on October 22nd. Although Ronaldo is included in the team roster, there is uncertainty regarding his travel to India. Historically, he has played very few ACL2 matches away from home. In related news, Ronaldo recently solidified his commitment to Al Nassr until 2027, dismissing rumors of a move to the MLS. This confirms his continued dedication to the international ambitions of Saudi Arabian football. FC Goa qualified for the ACL2 after winning the Kalinga Super Cup, marking their return to continental competition since their first appearance in the AFC Champions League in 2021. They earned their spot by defeating Al Seeb (Oman) with a score of 2-1 in a closely contested match. With the involvement of Mohun Bagan Super Giant and the possible arrival of Ronaldo, this ACL2 season promises to be a defining moment for Indian football.
