Coco Gauff made history on June 7th by winning her first French Open women’s singles title. The 21-year-old American tennis player staged an impressive comeback to defeat Aryna Sabalenka, the World No. 1, in a thrilling final on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Gauff won the match with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-2, and 6-4.

The win is a major achievement for Gauff. In 2022, at the age of 18, she reached the French Open final but lost to Iga Swiatek, who was then the World No. 1. This time, Gauff was successful in claiming the title.

This French Open victory marks Gauff’s second Grand Slam title. She won her first at the 2023 US Open. Interestingly, the final was a rematch of that US Open, with Gauff also beating Sabalenka. This time, Sabalenka did not get her revenge.

This win also allowed Gauff to get back at Sabalenka for beating her in the Madrid Open final earlier in the year. With this latest victory, Gauff now has a 6-5 lead in their head-to-head matches, indicating her dominance.

The victory is particularly significant as it is Gauff’s first title on clay this season. She had previously reached the finals of the Rome Open and the Madrid Open but lost both times. The French Open win was like a ‘third time lucky’ moment for her on clay.

This French Open title is a major achievement for Coco Gauff, confirming her status as one of the leading players in women’s tennis.
