Bengaluru is on the edge of its seat as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) pushes to revive cricket at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. KSCA president Venky Prasad met with state Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Thursday in a crucial two-hour discussion centered on bringing back matches to the venue.
Prasad expressed optimism post-meeting, telling reporters, ‘No delays have occurred in the decision-making process for the stadium. We thank the Home Minister for forming a dedicated committee that’s working tirelessly alongside us to grant permissions. The cabinet meeting today will finalize things, and I’m hopeful for a positive outcome.’
He praised the committee chairperson and police officials for their support, emphasizing KSCA and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s joint commitment. ‘We’ve provided a clear timeline for all required tasks, showcasing our dedication to cricket,’ Prasad added.
Beyond IPL, Prasad aims to host international matches. ‘I’ve played here for India and know our fans’ passion. Reviving cricket at Chinnaswamy is my responsibility,’ he said, underscoring fan safety as paramount.
Recalling the 1996 World Cup when 38,000 fans packed the stadium without incident despite crowds outside, he called last year’s tragedy—11 deaths in a stampede during RCB’s IPL 2025 title celebration—unfortunate but isolated. Government had banned events post-incident.
With IPL 2026 looming, Thursday’s cabinet decision could greenlight preparations, breathing new life into Bengaluru’s cricket heartbeat.
