    India concluded their CAFA Nations Cup debut with a commendable third-place finish, overcoming Oman in a thrilling penalty shootout at the Hisor Central Stadium. The match, tied 1-1 after extra time, saw India’s perseverance pay off as they edged past the higher-ranked Oman with a 3-2 score in the shootout. The Blue Tigers’ performance was marked by resilience and a strong display in their first participation in the Central Asian tournament. Oman started cautiously, allowing India to take the initiative. India’s early attacks, orchestrated by Vikram Partap Singh and Lallianzuala Chhangte, tested Oman’s defense. The first significant opportunity occurred in the 16th minute, but a header was saved. Oman responded with their own attacks, which were denied by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. India missed a critical chance before halftime. Oman took the lead early in the second half, with Jameel Al Yahmadi scoring in the 55th minute. Coach Khalid Jamil’s strategic substitutions in the 78th minute proved effective, leading to Udanta Singh’s goal. Oman was reduced to ten men in the 96th minute after a red card. Despite the advantage, India couldn’t find the winning goal in extra time, leading to the penalty shootout. India took an early lead in the shootout. Sandhu’s crucial save ultimately secured the win. The third-place finish highlights the team’s determination and depth under coach Khalid Jamil. Key players stepped up, and the team showed strong character. This achievement marks a positive step for Indian football, demonstrating their growth on the Asian stage.
