Raipur. Former Chhattisgarh Cricket Association (CSCS) president Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has been elected as the new treasurer of BCCI. He will replace Ashish Shelar on this post. The appointment of Prabhtej Singh Bhatia to the post of Treasurer has been confirmed during the Special General Meeting called by BCCI. This achievement will prove to be a milestone for the Chhattisgarh Cricket Association, as this is the first time that a representative of the association will hold such a big responsibility in the BCCI.
Let us tell you that former BCCI Treasurer Ashish Shelar had left the post of Treasurer after getting the post of Cabinet Minister in Maharashtra Government. According to BCCI rules, it is mandatory for a new appointment to be made on any post of the board within 45 days of its becoming vacant. Therefore, after Shelar left the post, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia had applied for the post of Treasurer, who was elected unopposed as the new Treasurer in the Special General Meeting of BCCI held in Mumbai today.
Who is Prabhtej Singh Bhatia?
It is noteworthy that Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, born in Raipur in 1991, is the son of Chhattisgarh’s veteran industrialist and social worker Baldev Singh Bhatia. His passion for cricket and his commitment to taking state cricket to new heights is commendable. Prabhtej’s father Baldev Singh has also been the president of Chhattisgarh Cricket Association (CSCS). Prabhtej Singh Bhatia completed his primary education from Shimla. After this he did a course in Finance in Economics Honors from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. His educational and leadership skills have established him as an influential figure in cricket administration.
Prabhtej Singh Bhatia’s tenure
Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will hold his post for the next 3 years and will be eligible to contest elections again. As per BCCI rules, each official has a tenure of three years and can hold the post for three consecutive terms. There is also a mandatory cooling-off period of three years between each tenure.
Devjit Saikia becomes the new secretary
In the special general meeting of BCCI, former wicketkeeper batsman Devjit Saikia has been appointed as the new secretary of the board. He will replace Jay Shah, who stepped down as BCCI secretary after taking over as the new ICC chairman.
