More than a month has passed since India’s triumphant Asia Cup 2025 victory, yet the team is still missing its championship trophy. The silverware is reportedly being held by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, leading to frustration within the BCCI. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that official communication was sent to Naqvi about ten days ago regarding the trophy’s handover, but no headway has been made.
Reports indicate that the Indian team did not accept the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony after the final match. This has resulted in the trophy remaining with the ACC chief, who also leads the Pakistan Cricket Board. Naqvi had suggested that the Indian team could collect it from the ACC office in Dubai, but also expressed a personal desire to present it.
Saikia expressed hope that the trophy will reach the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai in the coming days. He revealed that if the issue isn’t resolved promptly, the BCCI plans to raise it at the upcoming ICC quarterly meeting in Dubai on November 4. Saikia assured that the BCCI is prepared to handle the situation and that the trophy’s return to India is inevitable, although the exact timing is uncertain. He stressed that the victory is well-documented and only the physical trophy is pending.
