Bangladesh achieved a significant victory in the Asia Cup 2025, defeating Afghanistan by 8 runs in a Group B match. Held at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the match was crucial for Bangladesh’s Super-4 aspirations. Tanzid Hasan’s impactful half-century, along with strong bowling performances by Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, and Mustafizur Rahman, helped Bangladesh win. The match was of high importance, watched not only by fans of Bangladesh and Afghanistan but also by Sri Lankan supporters, as the outcome influenced the Super-4 qualification process. Bangladesh’s captain, Litton Das, opted to bat first. The opening pair, Saif Hasan (30) and Tanzid Hasan, boosted the scoring after a slow start. Tanzid’s aggressive batting led to a quick scoring rate. The team scored 59 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. Despite a slowdown after the powerplay, including the early dismissal of Litton Das, Tanzid completed his half-century in 28 balls. Tanzid’s dismissal affected Bangladesh’s scoring rate, eventually reaching 154 runs. Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad of Afghanistan took two wickets each.
