Windhoek, Namibia – Australia kicked off their U19 Cricket World Cup 2026 Super Sixes campaign with a commanding six-wicket victory over South Africa at the Namibia Cricket Ground. In a match that showcased their dominance, the young Aussies chased down a modest target with ease, setting the tone for what promises to be a strong run in the tournament.

South Africa, invited to bat first after losing the toss, suffered an early blow, losing opener Armaan Manack for a duck on the second ball of the innings. Captain Mohammad Bulbulia tried to steady the ship alongside Jorich van Schalkwyk, forging a 27-run stand for the second wicket. However, Bulbulia fell for 19 off 14 balls, including three boundaries, leaving his side in dire straits.

By the 37-run mark, South Africa had slumped to 4 for 37. Paul James and van Schalkwyk then added 30 runs for the fifth wicket off 47 balls, with James top-scoring with 33 from 60 deliveries, featuring a six and a four. Van Schalkwyk contributed 26 with three fours. But the innings folded for just 118 in 32.1 overs. Charles Lachmund starred with 3 wickets for Australia, supported by Will Byrom and Aryan Sharma, who claimed 2 each.

Chasing 119, Australia lost Will Malazuk for 4 with only 7 on the board. Steven Hogan and Nitesh Samuel then rebuilt with a 38-run partnership for the second wicket. Samuel made 16 with two fours before departing. Hogan anchored the chase, adding 22 with captain Oliver Peak (10) and 27 with Alex Lee Young. His patient 43 off 73 balls, laced with five fours, paved the way.

Lee Young and Zaden Draper saw Australia home with an unbroken 28-run stand in 32.5 overs. JJ Basson took 3 for 41 for South Africa, with Buyanda Majola grabbing one. This clinical performance underlines Australia’s pedigree as they eye glory in the Super Sixes stage.
