South Africa, invited to bat first after losing the toss, suffered an early blow, losing opener Armaan Manack for a duck on the second ball of the innings. Captain Mohammad Bulbulia tried to steady the ship alongside Jorich van Schalkwyk, forging a 27-run stand for the second wicket.
