The Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2025 saw a gripping match between India and Sri Lanka, with India winning in a super over. Following the victory, which secured India’s place in the final against Pakistan, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav reached out to Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. Yadav embraced Wellalage, offering condolences on the recent passing of his father on September 18. The Indian captain spent time consoling the young cricketer. Footage of the interaction has gained widespread attention on social media. Prior to this, Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, also extended his sympathies to Wellalage. Reports indicate that Wellalage’s father suffered a heart attack during the Sri Lanka vs. Afghanistan match, possibly due to the stress of the game. In the final over of the Afghanistan innings, Mohammad Nabi hit five consecutive sixes against Wellalage. Despite this, Sri Lanka won the match by six wickets, ending Afghanistan’s Asia Cup run.
