The BCCI has broken its silence on the post-match handshake controversy from the India vs. Pakistan Asia Cup match. There are reports of possible disciplinary actions against India for the team’s refusal to shake hands with Pakistan after the game. The Pakistani team was left waiting as Indian batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube went directly to the changing room. Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, and his team were left waiting near the Indian area for a handshake that never occurred. The captains also did not shake hands at the toss. The ACC is currently reviewing the footage and evaluating potential disciplinary measures. A BCCI official stated that handshakes are a custom, not a requirement, and thus, the Indian team may not face sanctions. The official pointed out that the rules do not explicitly specify a handshake, making it a gesture of goodwill rather than a mandated action. The official added that without a specific rule, the Indian team is not obligated to shake hands with a team with which they have a history of strained relations.
