Shaheen Afridi, the new ODI captain for Pakistan, has urged his team to capitalize on their recent series victory against South Africa as they gear up for the upcoming clash with Sri Lanka. The three-match ODI series, set to commence in Rawalpindi, provides an immediate opportunity for Pakistan to solidify their return to form in the 50-over format, following a disappointing Champions Trophy.

Afridi expressed immense satisfaction with his team’s collective effort in securing the series win against the Proteas, describing it as a significant confidence booster. “The energy, intent and teamwork were outstanding,” he noted. His primary message for the Sri Lanka series is clear: maintain that winning momentum and strive for continuous improvement.

The captain anticipates a competitive series against Sri Lanka, whom he described as a “disciplined side” that “always challenge you with their skills.” Afridi emphasized the need for strategic play and a positive outlook. He also stressed a shared responsibility philosophy within the squad, advocating for every player to step up and contribute, rather than relying on a few individuals. “All the players should take responsibility… we all should do our best,” he asserted.

Sri Lanka, under Charith Asalanka, is also coming off a strong performance against Zimbabwe. Asalanka acknowledged the challenging nature of facing Pakistan on home turf but expressed optimism about his team’s current form. The series begins on November 11 in Rawalpindi.
