In a historic performance at the Wankhede Stadium, England’s Adil Rashid has etched his name in the annals of T20 cricket. The leg-spinner surpassed Pakistan’s Haris Rauf to claim the record for the most T20I wickets against a single full-member nation, taking his tally to 42 against West Indies.
Rashid achieved this milestone in the 15th match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Wednesday, dismissing West Indies’ Roston Chase. Haris Rauf previously held the mark with 40 wickets against New Zealand, while New Zealand’s Tim Southee sits third with 38 against Pakistan. Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi rounds out the top four with 35 against the Kiwis.
Adding to his accolades, Rashid became only the second English bowler to reach 400 T20 wickets, now standing at 401. Chris Jordan leads with 446.
West Indies, batting first after losing the toss, posted a formidable 196 for 6. They stumbled early, losing openers Shai Hope (0) and Brandon King (1) with just 8 runs on the board. Roston Chase and Shimron Hetmyer steadied the ship with a 47-run stand off 28 balls for the third wicket. Hetmyer smashed 23 off 12, including two sixes and two fours, before falling.
Chase added 34 off 29, partnering with Sherfane Rutherford for 22 runs. Rutherford then unleashed, remaining unbeaten on 76 off 42 balls with seven sixes and two fours. He combined with Rovman Powell for 51 off 29 and Jason Holder for 61 off 32, the latter scoring 33 off 17 with five boundaries.
England’s bowlers struck back, with Rashid and Jamie Overton taking 2 wickets each. Jofra Archer and Sam Curran claimed one apiece. Rashid’s record-breaking feat highlights his dominance over West Indies, marking a pivotal moment in the tournament.
