New Delhi brought good news for Indian cricket fans ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Namibia. Opener Abhishek Sharma, who was hospitalized on Monday due to a stomach infection, has been discharged. However, his participation in Thursday’s match at Arun Jaitley Stadium will be finalized only on the day of the game.

The development comes as a major relief after Abhishek missed Tuesday’s training session at the venue. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had confirmed the infection during a press conference, highlighting the team’s cautious approach.

Teammate Tilak Varma addressed the media on Wednesday, providing an update. ‘When we arrived in Delhi, Abhishek went to the hospital for checks. He’s been discharged today and is doing fine. We have one more day before the match. We’ll assess how he feels by tomorrow and decide accordingly,’ Tilak said.

Tilak also gave positive news on star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. ‘He’s completely fine now and improving well. With another day in hand, the team management will make the call. I expect him to return for Thursday’s game against Namibia,’ he added confidently.

Looking ahead, Tilak expressed the team’s excitement for the high-stakes encounter with Pakistan on February 15 at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium. ‘Honestly, we’re thrilled to play. We learned about the match on Monday and have been preparing intensely. Everyone’s ready, and we’re in the match zone now. Planning is underway,’ he noted.

As India eyes a strong start in the tournament, the fitness of key players like Abhishek and Bumrah remains crucial. Fans will eagerly await the final team announcements.
