South Africa produced a historic performance to chase down 359 and beat India by four wickets, leveling the ODI series 1-1 in Raipur. Aiden Markram was the hero of the day, crafting a brilliant 110 off 98 deliveries to anchor the mammoth pursuit. India had posted a formidable 358/5, thanks to outstanding centuries from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, South Africa’s batting lineup responded with determination. After an early setback with Quinton de Kock’s dismissal, Markram, along with Temba Bavuma and later Matthew Breetzke (68) and Dewald Brevis (54), laid the groundwork for victory. Breetzke and Brevis’s quickfire partnership in the middle overs proved particularly effective, especially under the dew-laden evening conditions. Markram reached his half-century and then his century, demonstrating composure and skill against both pace and spin. Despite losing key wickets, including Markram’s dismissal on 110, Corbin Bosch’s unbeaten 29 saw South Africa home with just four balls left. This remarkable chase matches the highest ever ODI target successfully chased against India.
