In a thrilling start to the T20 series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s opener Sahibzada Farhan unleashed a storm with his blistering innings, propelling his team to a commanding 1-0 lead. Batting first at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan posted a formidable total, largely thanks to Farhan’s aggressive stroke-play.

Farhan, who has been knocking on the doors of international selection, made a resounding statement. He smashed 80 runs off just 45 balls, including 8 towering sixes and 5 boundaries. His fearless approach set the tone right from the outset, as he targeted the Sri Lankan bowlers relentlessly. Coming in at number three after a quick start, Farhan’s partnership with captain Babar Azam added crucial runs to the scoreboard.

Babar contributed a steady 40, but it was Farhan who stole the show. The middle order, including explosive contributions from Iftikhar Ahmed and a late cameo from Abbas Afridi, helped Pakistan reach 195/5 in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka’s bowling attack, led by Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, struggled to contain the onslaught.

Chasing 196, Sri Lanka started brightly with Kusal Perera’s quickfire 30. However, Pakistan’s pace duo of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf struck vital blows. Naseem’s swing bowling dismantled the top order, while Rauf’s raw pace rattled the batsmen. Despite a valiant effort from Charith Asalanka, who scored 45, Sri Lanka fell short at 168/8, handing Pakistan a 27-run victory.

This win marks a strong response from Pakistan after their recent struggles in limited-overs cricket. Farhan’s performance has sparked discussions about his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad. With two more matches to go, Sri Lanka will need to regroup quickly to level the series. Fans are already buzzing about the next clash.
