In a surprising diplomatic twist, the Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the ‘Board of Peace,’ a new oversight body aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict. Moscow officials revealed they are carefully reviewing the proposal and anticipate discussions with Washington to clarify details.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed reporters, stating that the offer came through diplomatic channels. ‘President Putin has been extended an invitation to participate in this Board of Peace. We are conducting a thorough examination of the proposal,’ Peskov said, according to Russia’s TASS news agency. He added that Russia expects the U.S. side to provide full transparency on all aspects.
The board is set to launch during the second phase of a peace plan for Gaza. The first phase concluded in October 2025, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey between Israel and Hamas. This comes amid Russia’s diplomatic isolation in the West following its invasion of Ukraine.
Described as an ‘umbrella oversight body’ for Gaza, the board will be chaired by Trump and include heads of state from various nations. Invitations have gone out to leaders across the Middle East and beyond, including India. According to a letter and draft charter cited by Reuters, Trump’s chairmanship is for life, starting with Gaza and expanding to other global conflicts.
Member countries face a three-year term limit, with permanent membership reportedly requiring a $1 billion payment. Diplomats warn this initiative could undermine the United Nations’ role in international peacekeeping. As tensions simmer in the region, this development signals a potential shift in global alliances and peace efforts.
