In a shocking incident that has exposed glaring lapses in urban infrastructure, a young engineer met a tragic end in Noida’s Sector 150 when his car plunged into a water-filled pothole late at night. The Uttar Pradesh government has responded swiftly, removing the Noida Authority CEO from his post and ordering a high-level investigation.

The accident occurred amid heavy waterlogging, a persistent issue in the area despite repeated complaints from residents. The engineer, driving in the dark, failed to spot the deep crater on the road, leading to his vehicle submerging completely. Despite rescue efforts, he drowned before help could arrive.

Public outrage erupted immediately, with locals accusing the authorities of criminal negligence. ‘We’ve been raising alarms about these hazards for months,’ said one resident, voicing the frustration of many who claim their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took personal cognizance of the matter, directing the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by ADG Meerut Zone. The panel also includes the Meerth Divisional Commissioner and the Chief Engineer of PWD, tasked with submitting a report within five days.

The probe will scrutinize departmental responsibilities, reasons for inaction on known waterlogging and potholes, and fix accountability on negligent officials. Strict action against the guilty is anticipated.

Sources indicate the CM might visit the site soon to console the bereaved family and assure comprehensive support. This tragedy underscores the urgent need for accountability in urban development bodies across Uttar Pradesh.
