RANCHI: In a significant interaction on Tuesday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren welcomed a 17-member delegation from the National Defence College at his official residence on Kanke Road. The meeting highlighted Jharkhand’s rich natural resources, vibrant tribal heritage, and burgeoning opportunities across key sectors.

CM Soren emphasized the state’s unique identity shaped by its mineral wealth and ancient traditions. ‘Jharkhand’s tribal culture is our priceless heritage, known worldwide for its authenticity,’ he stated. He praised local athletes who have shone on global stages, from cricket icon MS Dhoni to archer Deepika Kumari and half the players in India’s women’s hockey team.

The state government’s sports policy has created robust platforms for talent nurturing. Despite limited resources, tribal youth have excelled in cricket, hockey, archery, and more, bringing pride to Jharkhand.

Shifting focus to education, Soren detailed ongoing efforts to elevate government schools to CM Schools of Excellence, matching private institutions in quality. Collaborations with private colleges ensure top-tier education access. The recent University Bill approval and operation of 10 medical colleges underscore commitments to higher learning. Polytechnic expansions and the Guruji Credit Card scheme offer up to ₹15 lakh loans without guarantees, removing financial barriers for underprivileged students.

On industry, Jharkhand’s legacy with giants like Tata and HEC positions it strongly. Rich in minerals, the state boasts a pro-investor policy drawing global interest. First-time participation at the World Economic Forum signals ambitious growth. Soren urged delegates to visit Jharia’s underground fire, a persistent challenge needing innovative solutions.

Jharkhand leads in railway revenue, mineral transport, and production of tasar silk, lac, and mahua. Forest produce federations and processing centers empower farmers with fair prices.

Rural development sees boosts in animal husbandry, vital for tribal communities, ensuring nutritious food and income. Green energy initiatives protect the environment, while anti-Naxal operations and welfare schemes have drastically reduced insurgent activities.

Soren highlighted tribal roles in India’s tea industry and efforts to combat migration through empowerment programs. The delegation applauded the Maiya Samman Yojana, benefiting 5.3 million women with ₹2,500 monthly via DBT, fostering self-reliance.

Senior officials including Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar and NDC leaders like Major General Hartej Singh Bajaj attended, alongside officers from five nations.
