In a thrilling encounter at the first One Day International, Team India clinched a hard-fought four-wicket victory over New Zealand, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The match, played under clear skies, showcased India’s resilience as they chased down a challenging target set by the Kiwis.

New Zealand, batting first, posted a competitive total of 272 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra provided a solid foundation with a 60-run partnership before the Indian bowlers struck back. Washington Sundar was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3 crucial wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with two scalps each.

Chasing 273, India lost early wickets with skipper Rohit Sharma departing for a duck. However, a masterful innings from Virat Kohli nearly turned the game single-handedly. The chase master fell agonizingly short of his 50th ODI century, dismissed for 95 off 104 balls. Shreyas Iyer (77) and KL Rahul (34) played vital supporting roles to guide India home in the 48th over.

This victory marks a strong statement from the Men in Blue ahead of the remaining matches. With the series lead secured, attention now shifts to the second ODI where New Zealand will look to bounce back.
