In a fiery critique during his visit to Malda, West Bengal, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of staging drama in Delhi out of fear of electoral defeat. Speaking to locals over tea and later to reporters, Ghosh questioned Banerjee’s timely trip to the capital amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state.
‘Why did the Chief Minister rush to Delhi when SIR processes are underway in West Bengal?’ Ghosh asked pointedly. He claimed Banerjee realizes that a fair and thorough SIR would expose discrepancies, jeopardizing her Trinamool Congress’s return to power. This panic, he alleged, prompted her dramatic Delhi visit and subsequent outbursts.
Ghosh detailed how Banerjee’s 90-minute meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner ended with immediate media statements criticizing the process. He dismissed any issues with SIR itself, instead pointing fingers at TMC workers harassing BJP’s Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and deliberately complicating the revision to delay completion.
Drawing parallels to Bihar, where the Election Commission successfully conducted SIR leading to significant political shifts, Ghosh predicted similar outcomes in Bengal. ‘Just like Bihar, West Bengal will see transformative results,’ he asserted confidently.
Meanwhile, support for Banerjee emerged from Bihar MP Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, who hailed her as ‘Jhansi ki Rani’ and praised her fighting spirit following her CEC meeting. This political divide underscores the high stakes as Bengal gears up for elections, with SIR at the center of the controversy.
